Many crusaders are facing problems with GR 40 and above. Here I'll post my impressions and some of my experience with greater rifts and gear + efficient gems. This will be a topic for more discussions, because everyone can improve my experience. This is non-season, because I'm not playing seasons, never played the 1st season ever.
The first and most important thing is for you to remember that this game is solely based on RNG and you can play a couple of days, if not even more for a good density. Crusaders are not like barbarians, to carry mobs around, so we need a good GR to complete. With that being said, let's get to the point.
GEAR REQUIRED:
1. FULL AKKHAN SET
Helm: Str, Vit, CC ( or phalanx % instead of CC, but do not give up vit on helm, it's very useful in 42+ ), Skt
Shoulders: Str, Vit, AR, CDR
Hands: Str, CHD, CHC, CDR
Torso: Str, Vit, Reduced dmg from elites 10-11%, 3 x Skt
Pants: Str, Vit, AR, 2 x Skt
Legs: Str, Vit, AR, Phalanx %
RINGS:
Unity with CDR and skt
SOJ ( with or without CDR ) and skt
BRACERS:
Strongarms: Physical %, Str, Vit, CHC and 28+ increased dmg
AMULET:
Hellfire: Str, CHD, CHC, Skt and one of the four passive skills you're using for the Phalanx build, so you can add another useful one.
Legendary Amulet: Physical %, CHD, CHC, Skt
BELT:
VigiLante Belt: Str, Vit, AR, CDR
WEAPON:
The Furnace: Str, %dmg, CDR, skt / Str, %dmg, Vit, skt
SHIELD:
UNRELENTING PHALANX: Str, CDR, Phalanx %, CHC / Str, Vit, CHC, CDR
GEMS:
Mandatory: Bane of the Trapped - This build has control impairing effects almost everywhere you look.
Mandatory: Pain Enhancer - Main damage comes from this gem.
CDR Dependant: Gogok of Swiftness when you find yourself having CDR between 53-55.7%.
Zei's Stone of Vengeance when you reach CDR 56 and above just from gear alone. This gem is very powerful. You can try using a Taeguk as well, but the stacks can be tricky to maintain in certain areas and you need 50 stacks for 25% increased dmg.
If you can get 56%+ CDR with SOJ + Unity, the Zei's gonna give you some great dmg boost with this build that requires distance. Also, you can also try out the Bane of the Powerful and just go crusadering about.
You can try with the Toxin too.
2. AKKHAN SET + Leoric's Crown
Leoric's Crown: Str, Vit, CC ( or phalanx % instead of CC, but do not give up vit on helm, it's very useful in 42+ ), Skt and 95%+ increased effect.
Shoulders: Str, Vit, AR, CDR
Hands: Str, CHD, CHC, CDR
Torso: Str, Vit, Reduced dmg from elites 10-11%, 3 x Skt
Pants: Str, Vit, AR, 2 x Skt
Legs: Str, Vit, AR, Phalanx %
RINGS:
Unity with CDR and skt
RORG with CDR ( you can pull off a RORG with CHD while wearing LC ) and skt
BRACERS:
Strongarms: Physical %, Str, Vit, CHC and 28+ increased dmg
AMULET:
Hellfire: Str, CHD, CHC, Skt and one of the four passive skills you're using for the Phalanx build, so you can add another useful one.

You can try using a Taeguk as well, but the stacks can be tricky to maintain in certain areas and you need 50 stacks for 25% increased dmg. You can fiddle around with the Toxin gem too. Also, you can also try out the Bane of the Powerful and just go crusadering about.
BUILD:
Active Skills
Phalanx - Stampede
Iron Skin - Steel Skin
Steed Charge - Endurance
Laws of Valor - Unstoppable Force
Akarat's Champion - Prophet
Provoke - Charged Up ( you can also use Hit Me or Cleanse etc, but the dmg from Charged Up helps when you tackle high GR )
Passive Skills
Heavenly Strength
Lord Commander - Many people associate this passive with just reduced cdr for the Steed Charge and Bombardment, but it also gives 20% increased dmg to Phalanx, so it's a powerful passive to have.
Long Arm of the Law - Increasese the effect of every law by 5 seconds. The Stop Time Rune does not benefit from this passive.
Finery
These passives can be changed depending on the passive gained from a hellfire.
PLAY STYLE:
1. Always try and find open spaces to kill, draw mobs and elites there. You lose dmg in tight spaces with the Phalanx build.
2. Try and avoid small packs of mobs or yellow elites, they're not worth it. Yellow elites worth killing when you can combine them with blue packs and big trash packs.
3. If you can, try and avoid wallers, even if they're blue packs. If you can't, try to back them to the wall or in a corner and just spam stampede so they won't spam walls. The Kulle-Aid potion can be useful, but do not expect wonders when the elites just spam incontrollably.
4. Control stampede when you find reflect packs. These packs can kill you very fast when you hit'em. One of the down sides of Pain Enhancer, you can be killed by the DoT too. So avoid'em if possible.
I hope you find this useful and good luck in finding that elusive GR. I wish you all progress without conduits.
Now let's talk about SUPPORT crusader. The crusader can be a powerful weapon in a 4-man group, replacing a monk with ease.
GEAR REQUIRED:
Head: Leoric's Crown - Str, Vit, Life % or AR and skt ( 95%+ increased effect )
Shoulders: Born or Asheara's ( str, vit, cdr + AR/%life )
Chest: Born's ( str, vit, reduced dmg from elites/%life/AR/Armor, 3 skt )
Amulet: Xephirian Amulet - no skt required if you don't have a skt one ( str, vit, IAS, CDR or + skt if you have ), Overwhelming Desire for trials
Gloves: Asheara's or St. Archew's ( str, vit, cdr + anything )
Belt: Vigilante' Belt ( str, vit, cdr + %life/AR ), Crimson's ( str, vit, ar, %life ) if you decide to go with Illusory boots.
Pants: Crimson's ( Str, Vit, AR, 2 x skt )
Legs: Crimson's ( Str, Vit, AR, armor ), Illusory boots ( same stats )
Ring: Justice Lantern with CDR and skt ( keep % block ), any other good ring with str, vit, cdr, AR etc and skt, especially if you find good rings with 5 stats
Ring: RORG with CDR and skt
Bracers: Strongarms, again with 28%+ more dmg
Weapon: For this you can use Inviolable Faith ( if you want to run a consecration based build ) or Born's if you want to combine Born with Asheara's.
Shield: Mandatory The Final Witness because of the Shield Glare passive.
if you have/had a support monk, you can use that gear on the crusader too, because DEX is the same as STR for support.
SECONDARY ROLLS ON YOUR GEAR:
You should look for reduced dmg from ranged, melee, secondary resists etc., anything that allows you to get more survivability. Personally I crafted a Born's chest with these stats: 496 vit, 15% life, 559 armor and for secondaries I have 160 fire res and reduced dmg from melee. Had to reroll 3 sockets tho, I only had 2. But that's what you should be going for.
PARAGON DISTRIBUTION:
You should focus your core points in having 25% movement speed and the rest in vitality. For the rest of the paragon stats, go for survivability and CDR, you don't need resource cost reduction, you don't need gold find etc. If need to prioritize, I would go Life Regen over Life on Hit. Also, prioritize %life and AR over Armor, the Crusader has lots of armor from STR/DEX and from Prophet ). Also, you don't need CHC or CHD.
BUILD:
Active Skills
Judgement - Resolved
Shield Glare - Divine Verdict
Akarat's Champion - Prophet
Condemn - Vacuum
Iron Skin - Steel Skin / Charged Up ( Charged Up has 20% chance to stun all enemies from 10 yards for 2 seconds but be careful that elites will recover faster than trash mobs ) or Consecration - Frozen Ground
Laws of Valor - Critical ( 100% uptime for Critical means a lot of dmg for your party )
Passive Skills:
Towering Shield ( cdr reduction for shield glare ) or Vigilant ( if you run the Consecration build )
Long Arm of the Law
Fervor ( moar cdr when using 1h )
Indestructible
GEMS:
Mandatory: Gogok
Mandatory: Toxin
In case of third socket on the amulet: Moratorium
Have fun playing, guys, and your input is valuable.
############################################################################################
SPEED RIFTING T6
############################################################################################
You must farm some Gloves of Worship ( same stats as Akkhan gloves ). Great for speed rifting when you want to get that 9-10b/hour, maybe more, depending how good your group is. You need to use the Akkhan helm and the gogok for more CDR when you don't have an Empowered Shrine on.
Skills: You have to change the Law to Laws of Hope - Wings of Angels and take Iron Skin with the Flash rune.
The rest is just how you want to play it.
Have Fun!
